Solomon
The Wisest King
Key Scripture
“Give therefore thy servant an understanding heart to judge thy people, that I may discern between good and bad.”
— 1 Kings 3:9

✦Life Story
Solomon asked for one thing when God offered him anything: wisdom to govern. God was so pleased that He gave him wisdom and everything else besides. His early reign was a golden age — he built the Temple in Jerusalem, wrote Proverbs, Ecclesiastes, and the Song of Solomon, and his fame spread so far that the Queen of Sheba made a long journey just to see if the reports were true. Yet the wisest man who ever lived made profoundly unwise choices: he accumulated 700 wives and 300 concubines, many of whom led his heart toward foreign gods. His life is a cautionary tale of great gifting unguarded by character. Wisdom unused in everyday choices becomes merely brilliance with tragic consequences.
